Drôle de faune – Un florilège pas bête du tout (french only)

July 10, 2025 - October 19, 2025

The Drôle de faune exhibition highlights the presence of animals in the photographic collections of Mhist, which include nearly a thousand images featuring animals with fur, feathers, wool, or hooves.

Paul Gagné fonds.

Ah! Animals. Whether they have feathers, fur, wool, or horns, are small or large, domestic or wild, they are closely linked to human destiny. Archaeological excavations demonstrate the evolution of these interrelationships over more than 2,000 years, from food necessities to entertainment, through the various aspects of domestication.

The exhibition Drôle de faune highlights the presence of animals in the photographic collections of Mhist. In fact, when counting the photos that include pets, farm animals, birds, hunting or fishing exploits, or exotic animals encountered during travels, we end up with an album of over a thousand images.

Florence Hunt fonds.

We invite you to discover our collection, where dogs, cats, elephants, horses, chickens, sheep, peacocks, fawns, and many more coexist! Through about sixty pieces of imagery, we present various situations where the relationship between animals and humans has been captured on film from 1890 to 1990. Official family photos, staged shots, candid moments, and souvenir photographs — there will be plenty of opportunities for visitors to smile, furrow their brows, laugh, or feel a little nostalgic!

Large-format reproductions, informative captions, historical and anecdotal “pop-ups,” memory games, quizzes on well-known (or not) expressions, and “Find It” challenges — all the tools are in place for you to discover our animal collection in a playful yet insightful way…

The Drôle de faune exhibition will appeal to both adults and children! It is presented in the American-Biltrite Room from July 10 to October 19, 2025.
